This piece was inspired by Thailand’s countryside and the urban fashion found throughout Southeast Asia. I backpacked across the region and discovered incredible vegetation, rich culture, and a strong sense of identity expressed through clothing. I also noticed how everyday attire often connected back to garments once worn by royalty, which added depth to the inspiration behind this design.

My challenge was to merge Southeast Asia’s dominant cultural aesthetics with the style of its smaller subgroups and translate that mix into western fashion. During my travels, I found this beautiful cotton batik fabric from Indonesia. Batik dyeing is one of the most important textile traditions in the region, and this fabric captures both the natural landscape and the regal influence seen throughout Southeast Asian society.

The result is an elegant and feminine ensemble. The top features a pleated halter design that zips and snaps in the back for easy access. It pairs effortlessly with jeans or any tailored pant. I see it as another perfect summer piece, created to carry the warmth and artistry of the region into everyday wear.
