I present this piece from my Land of Smiles collection, inspired by the traditional clothing of Thailand and the countryside throughout Southeast Asia. I backpacked across the region and experienced incredible landscapes, vibrant culture, and a deep connection between everyday dress and the garments once worn by royalty. That influence shaped the heart of this design.
My challenge was to merge the region’s contemporary fashion with its traditional subgroups and create something truly ready to wear. During my travels, I found a beautiful cotton batik fabric from Indonesia. Batik is one of the most celebrated textiles in Southeast Asia, so I blended its tradition with western construction techniques to bring this piece to life.
The ensemble is exquisite. It features a halter dress design with an asymmetric skirt drape and a pocket for convenience. If you are looking for a standout vacation piece, this is the one I recommend.
